This course is designed to provide a broad spectrum of students the basics in medical terminology & structural anatomy and serves only as a basic platform for minimum understanding for the competence and professional handling of patients for orthotic devices during fitting procedures. The intent of this course is not to provide a general study of gross anatomy and does not go into depth of anatomical studies. This course, along with others specific to individual areas of interest, will help to develop competencies in basic Orthotics. This course is one of a series of courses for competencies in orthotics and prosthetics.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Understand and identify the elements of the structural anatomy.
- Identify epithelial Tissue, connective tissues, nerve tissue, blood tissue & organs.
- Understand the skeletal system & articulations.
- Discuss Ligaments, tendons, bursa and their purposes.
- Understand the spinal column, vertebrae and their functions.
- Identify the different joints in the anatomy including but not limited to the sacroiliac Joint, Pelvis, Hip,and those found in the Upper & Lower Extremities.
- Utilize what you have learned in your practice.
